Congrats to the Patriots and Giants. I’m not too surprised by the Patriots getting there as I doubt anyone is, but I am shocked that the Giants have pulled this off. Some very exciting games today and its somewhat sad as I have a feeling our Superbowl might not be as close as our games today, although I have been wrong about the Giants in the past, maybe they will prove me wrong one more time.
Its hard not to give the Chargers a lot of credit too for how far they got in the playoffs with all those injuries. I still don’t understand what was wrong with LT but I’m sure he would been out there more if he could have. I’m not a fan of Norv Turner but besides a somewhat vanilla game plan it was hard to find him at fault for their loss. The Chargers played a pretty good game but in the end didn’t have enough to beat the Patriots. It was strange seeing both former Chargers Seau & Harrison on the Patriots which got me thinking. What if the Chargers made an effort to resign and keep those two players on their roster. Would the outcome have been different today? What if the Charger had not let Drew Brees go and sign with the Saints? Erase Rivers numerous errors today and plug Brees in there. Would the Chargers have won? I know the Chargers GM A.J. Smith has been highly praised because of the Vick trade in which they got Tomlinson in the draft, but I think just those 3 major players and think maybe people haven’t been looking at the big picture there.
I do have the say the NFC game was much more exciting for me. Negative 2 degrees on the field, -24 wind chill, the 3rd coldest game in NFL history. I had to adjust my thermostat at home as just watching the game made me feel a little colder. I wish more regular season NFL games could be played in inclement weather as I think it greatly heightens the competitiveness of the game. Yes we won’t see the 50+ point games but I think we see enough of that during the year anyway. And besides this game is a good example of adequate scoring, both teams are showing they can punch it in the end-zone. This Packers Giant game was a very exciting game and very classic game. Both teams playing well on both offense and defense. As soon as one team appeared to take the momentum the other would come down to score. The overtime finish is classic NFL playoff football. Favre must be disappointed as he let his team down but he’ll be back next year with an even better supporting cast.
I’m not crazy about the Giant’s chances in the Superbowl but every single week they continue to prove me wrong so we shall see in two weeks.
Also congrats to J. Sanders being dead on the weekly contest this week as Tynes overtime field goal sealed it, but Driver’s long touchdown reception was also a a winner.
Our Showdown standings going into the Superbowl are as follows:
- M. Rosen 7-3
- B.Cox 6-4
- J.Sanders 6-4
- Keith K. 5-5
