I wish I could say I am more excited about this game but as I have no love for the Giants or the Patriots, I am actually rooting in this game against the 1972 Miami Dolphins. I am tied of seeing Mercury Morris giving “angry man” interviews and coach Shula trying to downplay the celebration the has beens that were the ‘72 have after the last undefeated team goes down. I doubt we’ll see coach Belichek doing the same act for the next 30+ years if the Pat’s defeat the Giants as I am very positive they will. I might even have my own bottle of champaign to cork to celebrate the end of the Mercury Morris interviews.
With that being said my official predition for Sunday’s game is the New England Patriots 34, New York Giants 17.
I expect the Patriots to actually open the game with a heavy dose on Lawrence Maroney to stymie the Giants pass rush early, and then once in scoring range I am pretty confident in the nicer, warmer weather, we will see Randy Moss and Tom Brady return to old form and hook up for a minimum two touchdowns. Moss has waited his whole career for this Superbowl and I expect him to play harder than he has ever played before. Also Brady’s ‘injury’ seems healed and the Giants corners have been banged up the last few weeks. The corners have played well but they have not had to cover Randy Moss. If they double/triple Moss as some teams have then Wes Welker will be the Superbowl MVP as there’s no way for the Giants to stop all of them.
I also think Eli Manning reminds us all that he is Eli Manning. So fare he has proved me wrong having 3 good games in a row but all I remember of Eli is his inconsistently all year long struggling to put together a few good games in a row. I think he has been more lucky than good as of late and the Patriots defense has Week 17 as a primer and two weeks for the genius Belichek to prepare them, I don’t think its going to be very pretty. Of course with that being said I have picked the Giants to lose each of the last 3 weeks so lets see if they can do it to me again. I hope its an exciting last minute game but as Superbowl history has shown us, usually its not and half the time we are stuck score watching for our square to win that grand prize as opposed to watching a last minute comeback.
As for the Showdown & the weekly contest once all the entries are in I will post them here. Good luck to all and I hope to see everyone back next year. I will be covering the combine, NFL draft, and of course fantasy football rankings in the off season but next year I plan to have a few sponsors so hopefully some better prizes. Thanks for a great season.
